Ideas

As a group we are getting inspired by the work of Anastasia Elias. She makes quirky scenes out of paper that fits inside a toilet roll, she then lights it to give an atmosphere.

We have decided to use this idea as a staring point for our work. We want to develop this idea to make it our own.

One thought we had was to use a projector to shine light through because we want to create a silhouette. But after a discussion we decided that a tourch would be a better source of light becuse that way the piece would become interactive for the viewer if we allowed them to take control of the light themselves, which could make our piece more enjoyable.

Another thing we want to do as a development from Anastasia Elias' work is to add detail to the paper cutouts. We want to do this so that out imagery can be viewed as a small detailed design on the paper, and a silhouette on the wall behind, giving our work depth and creating more interest because there is more to see, and our samples inside the tube are attractive even with out the light.

As we are all from differnt specialisms the way that we are choosing to capture the detail on the samples are different. One group member is creating her detail by doing very intrecate pencil drawings at a normal scale and then shrinking them down on the PC to make it fit in the toilet roll.

For my samples I chose to do embroidery. This is because I wanted to incorporate my specialism into this brief. When I was making the samples, I thought carefully about what part I could cut away so that the sample looked interesting on the surface as well as the projection. I wanted my stitches to make it easier to see what the imagery is as I wanted the viewer to be able to recognize what it is.
