Developments of Final Pieces

These are photographs of my development for my final pieces. We decided as a group that we would be creating miniature silhouettes with the notions of using miniature paper cutting and stitching. I wanted to create something where you would just be seeing an outline of the image but what I find the most interesting if how people will interpret the projections; if they will recognize the image or if they have no idea what it is. Hopefully this will intrigue them by making them look inside tubes, which will revel, and more detailed image of what it actually looks like.

Embroidery Stages

Here are a few examples where I have drawn the same images again but this time I have just used embroidery for the outlines and for the shading. In these examples, I have experimented with colour and linear work. To me colour is everything, you can never use too much and too less and I love how the colour radically changes into different shades and I love the contrasting mixture of colours that you can see. I also love the contrast of using simplicity and detail into these samples. I have also experimented in creating different shading techniques. I am really happy with how I have approached the shading, as I wanted to create a variety of different appearances with it. I am really happy by how I have managed to make them as realistic as possible.

Drawings Stages

Everyday objects, can miniature draw attention to the over-looked and mundane?

I decided to draw from random and over looked objects from my room as to me I see these objects as being unnoticed and over looked to the human eye. I also feel that I would never of thought about drawing these objects in any kind of project so I feel that this is something completely different to what I usually use for inspiration and of course to draw from. These objects are items that I have either bought or have been given over the years. Some of these objects are quite sentimental to me so I really love the fact that I am using something that remains very precious and important to me.

Crafting with Paper

I came across the work of Elsa Mora. She works with paper to create gorgeous pieces some large and some small. I particularly like her style because her works have a pretty little girl feel to them and they are also quite playful which I enjoy.

I admire the planning of which parts to cut away with her work, as this is something I had to take into consideration.

Whist researching paper cutting I found these stunning paper eyelashes they are truly amazing and very delicate.

I also looked at miniature paper folding and found the work of Anja Markiewicz, she makes very tiny origami pieces, i am astounded at how small scale she has managed to go, this must have been very hard work as it is difficult to get origami folds right even on a normal scale. I have much admiration for her work.

One simple paper folding game that I remember playing as a child is the paper fortune teller. i had a go at making the game as small as I could, still not as small as Anja's work!

Adele Whittle

Adele Whittle creates tiny paintings onto stones and then turns them into beautiful pendants. she uses a wide range of imagery but the themes seem to focus mostly on nature animals and fantasy creatures.

Her work is very beautiful and very skillful made. I attempted painting on some stones and didn't manage to get such a high quality of work as she has done. This is due to one she has had a lot more practice than my and has gotten to a high standard, and two because even the smallest paint brush that I had was clearly not small enough. Through doing these paintings I have learnt how important it is to have the right tools to achieve the results you want, with out them you will struggle.

Lee Mills Minatures

As part of my community project I visited Lee mills - The Knitting and Crochet Guild. While I was there I took the time to look for any miniature treasures I could find. I thought it would be interesting to see what tiny treasures the guild might have to inspire my miniature project. I photographed my findings and put a 20p next to the artefacts to give an idea of scale. Here are the treasures I have found,

Tiny Purse
 Tiny Mittens
 Tiny Socks

 Tiny Dolls Dress
 Tiny Knitting
I was inspired by these tiny items and wanted to create my own miniature knitted sample.

I did this knitting with tooth picks and wool. It was very fiddily to do and very easy to make a mistake so i had to work carefully and slowly. I am very happy with the result and if i had more time i would want to continue with this sample to see what it might lead to.
